Talking Christmas with Rebecca Lowrey Boyd of Wee Birdy

There are not too many sleeps left until Christmas day. Which makes us both excited and a little nervous. Who’s been naughty? Who’s been nice?

One person who’s been super nice? Wee Birdy. We’ve loved working with her for a range of posts, including her Christmas inspiration, and making over her bedroom.

How organised are you at Christmas time?

I’m usually pretty good at getting my Christmas shopping done and sorted by early December, but I’ve spent more than one Christmas Eve frantically wrapping presents well into the early hours. This year, I’m going to be much more organised and do all my wrapping well in advance. So I say.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

A pink Barbie corvette. I’ve still got it! My three-year-old son loves cars, but funnily enough isn’t remotely interested in it. Except when Mr Dinosaur is driving, of course.

Best Christmas childhood memory?

I got up early one Christmas morning and snuck out to the living room to see if Santa had been. I distinctly remember sucking in a deep breath when I saw the tree surrounded by a sea of presents. Just magic.

What’s the best part of Christmas for you?

Watching my son’s face. Oh, and the food. The food is always good.

How do you make Christmas magical?

You can never have enough Christmas lights! It’s our second year in the “treehouse”, a pole house in Sydney’s bushburbia, and you have to walk down a long and meandering path to get to the front door. This year I’m “planting” groups of light-up mushrooms. And a light-up deer will be hiding behind a gum tree. It’s a tad geographically confusing in terms of European fauna and flora in the middle of the Australian bush, but I’m going with it.

What’s one thing YOU MUST DO to turn Christmas on for you?

Christmas Eve MUST involve a feast, of sorts, while watching Carols by Candlelight on TV. Accompanied by a glass or two of “Christmas cheer”, naturally.

And what’s on your Freedom wishlist?

  1. Decorate Ombre tea lights in gold. Absolutely divine.
  2. The globe string lights. I want 100 packets of them!
  3. Miss Wood 3 Drawer Desk. I need this as a console inside our front door. I love the vintage Scandi design, too.
  4. Entertain gold table runner. Instantly transforms any surface into a very stylish Christmas!
  5. The gold charger plate. Amazingly good price and makes just about anything you serve look impressive.
