Kara Rosenlund: Winter Workshop at Freedom Windsor

We are excited. We’re thrilled. We can’t wait!

Kara Rosenlund, Photographer/Adventurer/Storyteller/Stylist/Caravaner/All ‘Round Awesome Woman is hosting a Winter workshop at our Freedom Windsor store soon. We took time out with Kara to find out more.

Kara Rosenlund. Where did your career start? I started my career as a photographer and stylist 13 years ago, I had a break in the middle where I lived in London and was an antiques buyer, travelling between France and London on buying trips. Since returning to Australia I have been able to bundle the photography, styling and love for the home all under the one roof.

When we’re talking sofas – leather or fabric? And why? Fabric – I love a slip cover sofa – fabric lends itself to our casual Australian climate; you can easily have a few fabric slip choices depending on the season and swap them over when you feel like it; plus they are easy to wash, so you don’t have to feel guilty about having your feet up on the sofa. Leather is beautiful, though it has a seriousness about it. I prefer to use leather for a club chair.

What’s your favourite part of Winter? Lighting the fire every night, It feels like the house comes alive as you sit and watch the fire dance in front of you.

Top tip for getting your home ready for the chilly season? I like to have a collection of spring/summer cushion covers and a collection of autumn/winter cushion covers, just like my seasonal wardrobe. For me I love swapping over the cushions and bringing out the blankets and throws which have been tucked away over the warmer months. This extra layers really transform the house and it instantly feels cosy and warm.

Best Winter memory? A few weeks spent on the remote west coast of Scotland in a little ‘croft’ on the edge of a cliff. It was so cold and rugged, the fire was on all day and the fierce elements belted down on this little old wooden hut – though inside it was just so warm and safe; pure shelter.

Where could we find you on a Sunday morning in Winter? In bed…. tucked up with a cup of tea in a cocoon of woolly blankets…. and my husband would probably be somewhere in amongst the blankets too.

What’s your favourite piece from the new Freedom A/W15 collection? I’m loving the Dahlia sofa, the HOT Stiletto side table, the limited edition Gilt throw – chunky knits are perfect for Winter, and the Dame ottoman.

And what should guests expect from your workshop at Freedom Windsor? To be excited about the coming cooler months, as there is plenty of inspiration to be had when preparing your home for winter!
